IPD is adopting a new approach to training this year. The
IPD programme comprises twenty-four 'conference style' events
and a further twenty regional training days hosted by members'
schools across the UK. During the course of the year, each
region will be host to two such events; one focusing on developing
middle leadership in academic departments and one dealing
with classroom and whole-school ICT issues.
Conference style events will be similar in format and organisation
to IPD's existing and very popular models. As present, they
will include presentations from keynote speakers and will
allow focus on case studies and opportunities to work in smaller
groups on broader generic subjects. Conference events will
take place at a variety of hotels/conference venues, largely
in the Midlands area. Venues have been chosen which offer
ease of access by road, rail and air.
Regional Middle Leadership training events will offer content
very similar to IPD's successful programme launched in 2006
for aspiring and more established Heads of Departments. Sessions
will cover theory of leadership and will focus on key leadership
processes, including leading more effective meetings, building
more effective teams, reviewing and developing the department,
preparing for inspection and dealing with challenging colleagues.
Regional ICT events will cover the use of new technologies
in the classroom as well as broader strategic issues. Lead
trainers from IPD's three ICT training partners, Infacom,
Steljes and iSAMS will deliver sessions on interactive whiteboard
use, developing teaching resources, 'anytime anywhere learning'
using handheld devices and Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs).
Quality assurance remains a very high priority for IPD as
we strive to maintain the very positive response to our courses.
In 2007-08 more than 90% of our two thousand delegates considered
events to be very good or excellent overall.
Finally, this year we are expanding out 'In School Professional
Development Service' (ISPDS) and will be offering a range
of high-quality consultants for school based INSET.

IPD Middle
Leadership Training Programme
Over the last three years IPD has been developing and refining
a highly successful Middle Leadership training model. This
year, the new version of that model, which has been developed
in collaboration with Professor Brent Davies of Hull University,
and takes into account the most up-to-date thinking and practice
in the field, will be delivered across all regions of the
UK. Ten 'hub schools' will be hosting these events, making
IPD Training more accessible than ever before.

ICT Regional Training
Programme
Since its launch in 2004 IPD has been developing mutally
beneficial partnerships with a number of leading ICT providors
who have offered expert input at a range of training events.
All of these are well known to independent schools and they
clearly understand the needs of the sector.
This year, three of these partners are combining their expertise
in a day programme to be delivered on behalf of IPD across
all regions of the UK. It is important to stress that their
role is very clear and is to deal with generic issues and
approaches within the context of learning and teaching with
ICT, with the major emphasis on training. Their role is not
to promote the particular products they might offer in the
marketplace, although a variety of these products, will, of
necessity, be on hand and used as part of the training process
on the day.
Ten 'hub schools' will be hosting these events, making high-quality
ICT training much more accessible for the majority of schools,
both geographically and financially. The ocst of next year's
ICT training days will be, on average, about 30% cheaper than
similar courses offered by commercial providors.
